Joe C. Proffitt, 82, passed away Monday, February 24,2 003, at his home in Newport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Edna Proffitt, and brother, Charles Proffitt.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Bell Proffitt; sons and daughters-in-law: Joe Proffitt Jr. and wife, Linda, of Newport, and Benny and wife, Marilou, of Brentwood, TN; daughters and sons-in-law: Marilyn and husband, Charles Benson, of Newport, and Louise and husband, Jimmy Hux, of Newport; grandchildren: Chuck Benson, Dustin Hux and wife Jennifer, Shannon Smith and husband Jeff, Alecia Allen and husband Chris, Whitney Laws and husband Jason, Mandy Gregg and husband Eric, Shawndee LoVoy and husband Jason, B.J. Proffitt and wife Melissa, Travis Proffitt, Joey Proffitt; great-grandchildren: Aaron Gregg, Ty Allen, Madilynn Gregg, Abby Benson, Tatum Allen, Harrison Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Issac LoVoy, and two on the way; brothers: Denzil Proffitt, of Sevierville; Roy M. Proffitt, of Kodak, TN; sister, Ima Kate Williams, of Newport; and sister-in-law, Mabel Denton Proffitt, of Cosby.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Priority of America, Penn Warren Dr., Suite 300-205, Brentwood, TN, 37027; Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, Media Ministry, 243 Lincoln Ave., Newport, TN; or Smoky Mountain Hospice.
Funeral services will be at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Craig Ward, Rev. Tom McNair, and Rev. Robert Walker officiating. The burial will lie in state from 10:30 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 until 9 p.m. at Manes Funeral Home.
Manes Funeral Home is in charge.
