Vera Bentley , 91, of Amarillo died Tuesday, April 19, 2011.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Trinity Fellowship Church North Ministry Center with the Rev. Philip Thurmond, pastor, and the Rev. Donnie Lane, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St.
Mrs. Bentley was born Jan. 16, 1920, in Liberal, Kan. to J. G. and May Roots. She graduated from Texhoma High School in 1938 and married R. L. Bentley in 1943 in Clovis, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Vera was a longtime member at both San Jacinto Baptist Church and Paramount Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and studying scripture and was always very involved in church activities and Bible study.
She had lived at Ware Living Center for 15 years. She loved flower gardening and making and decorating birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends.
She had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with her family. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Sellars; a brother, James Roots; and a son-in-law, Mark Fuller, in 2004.
Survivors include a son, Keith Bentley of San Diego; two daughters, Judy Fuller of Amarillo and Dianne Thurmond and husband Philip of Pittsfield, Mass.; a sister, Dororthy Johnson of Guymon, Okla,; seven grandchildren, Paul Thurmond of Manchester, N.H., Tiffany Thurmond of Burleson, Dustin Fuller and Shanda Lane and husband Donnie, all of Amarillo, Keisha Carpenter and husband Chad and Brett Bentley , all of San Diego, and Crystal Bushey and husband Jason of Pittsfield; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Citychurch, 205 S. Polk St., Amarillo, TX 79101.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
