Ben Robert Crowson, age 94, was born May 15, 1917, in Wears Valley, Tennessee. He was a member of the founding family of Wears Valley which settled there in 1792. Ben went to live with his Lord and loved ones on September 9th with loving family at his side. He retired from Aluminum Company of America after 39 years of service and was a Lifetime member of Rockford Lodge 469 F&AM and 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He lived in Blount County for 39 years prior to his retirement from ALCOA then moved back to beautiful Wears Valley which was settled by his ancestors. He enjoyed camping for many years in the Smoky Mountains and traveling throughout the U.S. with his wife, Blanche, in their motor home. He loved music and sang with the Gatlinburg Community Chorale and Wears Valley and Logans Chapel Methodist Church Choirs for many years. He was recognized in May of this year as being the oldest living member of Wears Valley Methodist Church during their 125 year celebration service. He enjoyed following numerous college and professional sports teams and was a lifetime member of the Blount County Library. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Walter Crowson and Myrtle Tarwater Crowson. Sisters: Nelle Fain and brother-in-law, Frank Fain, Lois Bryan and brother-in-law Dot Bryan, Mable Fleming and brother-in-law Rex Fleming. Survivors are his wife of 67 years, Blanche Duggan Crowson; daughter, Sandra Crowson Gregory; and son Michael Robert Crowson. Other survivors are son-in-law Dennis G. Gregory, and daughter-in-law Cookie Headrick Crowson. Grandchildren include: Eric Gregory and wife Natalie Smith Gregory, Misty Crowson Gregory and husband Keith Gregory and Angelia Crowson Healy and husband Andrew Healy. Great-grandchildren include: Taylor and Kristyn Gregory, Abigail and Ava Gregory and Georgia Mae Rose Healy. His brothers are James Crowson and wife Marion Crowson and Bill Crowson and wife Ina Faye Crowson. He had many nephew and nieces, grand-nephew and nieces. The family will receive friends at Smith Mortuary in Maryville on Tuesday, September 13th from 1 to 3 p.m. with a celebration of life service lead by the reverends Kathy Hale and Frank Wier immediately following. Interment will be held at Sherwood Memorial Gardens following the celebration of life service. Family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Wears Valley Methodist Church, 3110 Wears Valley Road, Sevierville, TN 37862.
