Whittier -- Bessie Carr Nations, 104, of Shope Creek Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at Mountain Trace Nursing Center. A native of Sevier County, Tenn.; she had lived in Jackson County since 1937; she was a member of Whittier Baptist Church; daughter of the late John and Sarah Newman Carr; preceded in death by her husband, James L. Nations, who died in 1980; two daughters, Flora and Charlotte Nations; nine brothers and sisters and four half brothers and sisters. Surviving is three daughters, Geneva Garrett of Greer, S.C., Helen Everett and husband, R.L. of Oolte, Tenn. and Frankie Sheehan and husband, Jack, of Whittier; one son, Weldon Nations and wife, Lois, of Whittier; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 17 great great-grandchildren; and one great great great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Melton-Riddle Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Larry Nations and Clifford Willis officiating. Burial will be at Union Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
