Mr. Bill McCarter, age 85, of Morganton and Hiawassee, GA passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2001 in the Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Mr. McCarter was born June 16, 1916 in Sevier Co., TN, a son of the late James Newt and Mary (Huskey) McCarter. He was a native of Gatlinburg, TN and grew up in Hiawassee. He lived and worked in Akron, OH and after retiring moved back to Morganton and Hiawassee, GA. He was a member of Star Creek Baptist Church and Ocoee Masonic Lodge #201 F&AM. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vella Eller McCarter in 1990. Survivors include: his wife, Montree D. McCarter of the home; daughter, Beechie McCarter Curbow of Atlanta, GA; step-daughter, Nyoka Rogers of Hiawassee, GA; step-son, Terry Stroud of Hiawassee, GA; grandchildren, Jay Curbow and Gregory Curbow both of Morganton, GA and Genevieve Curbow of Atlanta, GA; four great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 14, 2001 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Ledford officiating. Pallbearers were: Tom Sprinkles, Terry Stroud, Johnny Rogers, Truett Eller, Michael Haverty and Kenny Stroud. Honorary pallbearers were: Orvin Lance, Ricky Rogers and Randy Rogers.
