U.S. Veteran John Edward Mills, age 86, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 10, 2007, at Asbury Health Center. He was born near Greenback, TN, the son of the late John & Myrtle (Brown) Mills. He was a decorated soldier of WWII, and was wounded while fighting in the Battle of the Bulge for which he received the Purple Heart. He retired from ALCOA and was a member of the 25 Year Club. Also preceding him in transition: sister, Margaret Pugh; brothers, Ben and Bob Mills. He is survived by daughter, Sandra D. (Von) Irwin of Dallas, Texas; son, Lensay Mills, Knoxville, TN; five grandchildren: Deanna Green, Vonda Calhoun, Jon Irwin, each of Texas, Rebecca Heath, GA and Jeremy Mills of CO; nine great-grandchildren; brother Clifford Mills, Maryville; several nieces and nephews. He had a strong faith in God and always ended his devotions with, “In Jesus precious name we pray.” Friends may call at their convenience at Miller’s Funeral Home. A Memorial service will be held at Miller’s on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m. with Chaplain Melody Kidd officiating. The family will receive friends 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. The interment, with military honors, will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Grandview Cemetery.
