Diane Spence, 77, of Austin passed away April 12, 2011 in Austin. She was born on May 31, 1933 to V. Frank and Stella Zaremba in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana with a B.S. in Marketing/Advertising. She was then employed by Sears and did copy and layout for the catalog division. She met her beloved husband, J. Stanford Spence, while on vacation in 1958 in Acapulco, Mexico and they were married, after a short long-distance courtship between Phoenix and Chicago, in May, 1959. After that, she worked with Stan in their several businesses throughout the years. She was active in Recording for the Blind in Phoenix for a number of years, and recently volunteered with Austin Aussie Rescue. She enjoyed playing golf at Austin Country Club with her husband and friends and travelling extensively with her husband. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Stan ; two step-daughters, Terry Phelps & her husband, H. T., of Phoenix, Arizona and Katherine Lindsey of Virginia; step-grandchild, Garrett Phelps; sister-in-law, Ophelia Spence of Tucson, Arizona and Reno, Nevada; niece, Valerie Dixon and her husband, Danny, of Austin; niece Mary Richmond of Phoenix, Arizona; nephew, John Spence and his wife, Amy, of Oceano, California; numerous cousins, many loving friends and her beloved Australian Shepherd, Morgan. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Shelley Baker and the staff of Hospice Austin for their loving and tender assistance with the homecare of Diane during her final weeks. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at two o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 19th of April 2011, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 4311 Small Dr., Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers and usual remembrances, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Austin Aussie Rescue Society, P.O. Box 10426, Austin, Texas 78766.
