R. L. Whaley, age 80, of Alcoa, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at the family home. Mr. Whaley was a longtime member and past deacon of 1st Baptist Church of Alcoa and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from Rohm and Haas of Knoxville after 38 years of service. Preceded in death by his parents, H.B. and Martha Ownby Whaley; brothers, Earl and wife Joyce Whaley, Carl Whaley, and Hugh Whaley; brother-in-law, Dennis Bible; Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Faye Huskey Whaley; Sons and Daughters-in-law, Russ and Karen Whaley of Maryville and Jim and Karen Whaley of Alcoa; Grandchildren, Kimberly and Kylie Whaley; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Pearl Whaley of Sevierville; sister, Margie Bible of Morristown; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Annalee Whaley of Alcoa and Harold and Glenna Beaty of Alcoa; several nieces and nephews also survive. A Celebration of R.L.’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2011 in the Chapel with Rev. Freeman Tomlin officiating. The family and friends will assemble at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Valley View Cemetery – Wears Valley for the Interment with Rev. Preston Joslin officiating.
