Gordon Clay Huskey, 86, of Pittman Center passed away April 29, 2003 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
Gordon was a native of Pittman Center where he owned and operated the Greenbriar Grocery for 44 years. During WWII he served his country in the Army as a member of the 6th Calvary Division, which was the last calvary unit of the army. After serving his country he returned to his hometown of Pittman Center and was a member of the American Legion. Besides serving his country and community, he was of the Methodist faith.
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah S. Huskey; parents, Leonard and Lora Wright Huskey; brothers, Conley, Eugene, Raymond Huskey; sister, Ruby Huskey.
He is survived by his daughter, Patty Garner and husband Jack of Athens, TN; son, Brent Huskey and wife Patti of Gatlinburg; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Juanita and husband C. Gene Doss, Zelma Whaley; sisters-in-law, Cora and Janet Huskey. Besides the immediate family, Gordon will be missed by several nieces, nephews and a host of friends whose life he has touched during his stay in this world.
Service will be 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2003 at Rawlings Funeral Chapel with Rev. Melvin Carr, Rev. Alta C. Raper and Rev. Gant Garner officiating. Gordon’s nephews are honored to serve as pallbearers for the 11:00 a.m. interment at Emerts Cove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, May 2 in the Davis Room of Rawlings Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Burnett Memorial United Methodist Church, C/O Jerry Huskey, 2425 Little Branch Road, Sevierville, TN 37876.
