Survived by his wife, Barbara Scharwarth McCarter, Ponchatoula; a daughter, Vickie McCarter Mitrakas, Queens, N.Y.; two sons, James Wayne McCarter and Samuel Dale McCarter, both of Ponchatoula; three sisters, Nettie Brown and Blanche Jones, both of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Jean McCarter, Wisconsin; two brothers, Oscar McCarter and Homer McCarter, both of Lawrenceburg; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
