BCSO: Deadly Maryville home explosion caused by propane leak; victims ID'd
The two people killed when a Maryville home exploded on Thursday have been identified as the homeowners, 51-year-old Carey Knight and 54-year-old Donald Knight, according to a news release from the Blount County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators determined the blast was caused by an accidental propane leak, according to the release. The Knights were inside their home at 2832 Old Whites Mill Road when the explosion occurred.
Preliminary autopsy reports show the Knights' injuries were consistent with the force of the explosion, the release reads.
The blast flattened the roughly 1,200-square-foot house and rained debris across an area the size of a football field, according to Blount County Deputy Fire Chief Jerry Phillips.
A firefighter had a heart attack while responding to the explosion.

Knight (Holly) and Tyler Montgomery; Donald’s Great-Nephew, Ryker H. Knight; Carey’s Parents, Roger & Jewel Bolin; Carey’s Sisters, Jan (Bob) Goble, Cynthia (Roger) Armstrong, and Patricia K. Ward; Carey’s seven Nieces and Nephews; Carey’s eight Great-Nieces and Nephews. Family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 PM, Friday, July 21, 2017 at Smith Trinity Chapel.
