Henderson Grigsby, 81, of Knoxville, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at St. Mary's Select Specialty in Knoxville.
Mr. Grigsby retired as Knoxville district manager in 1989 after 42 years of service at Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company. He was a sergeant in World War II. A faithful member, Sunday school teacher and deacon at Central Baptist Church in Fountain City, he was also a lifetime member and former secretary of the Lions Club in Fountain City.
In addition to his parents, John Beecher and Betty Lee Davis Grigsby, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Washam Grigsby; and his brother, John Beecher Grigsby Jr.
Mr. Grigsby is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Joyce Grigsby of Knoxville, and Phil and LeAnne Grigsby of Friendsville; his daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Jim Harless of Oak Ridge, and Penny and Gary Metcalf of Kingsport; his grandchildren, Chris Grigsby and Angela Harless Ivey of Knoxville, Nicole Harless Zimdars of Pacifica, Calif., Jon Metcalf and Kayla Metcalf of Kingsport, Josh Grigsby and Wyatt Grigsby of Friendsville; his great-grandchildren, Nola and Jack Zimdars of Pacifica, Calif.; his sister, Opal Conley of Luttrell; his brother and sisters-in-law, Jack and Georgia Grigsby of Knoxville, and Lucy Grigsby of Luttrell; and numerous nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2005, in the chapel of Mynatt Funeral Home in Knoxville with the Rev. Ron Mouser and Dr. Calvin Metcalf officiating.
Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery for a 10 a.m. graveside service.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mynatt Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fountain City Lions Club.
