H. K. Stapleton, Jr., age 69 of Church Hill went to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 5, 2014 at his residence.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rogersville and had been attending New Life Missionary Baptist Church in Church Hill until his health declined. He was retired from the Tennessee Eastman Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam in the 101st Airborne Division.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Mary Stapleton, father and mother-in-law, Frank and Frankie Johnson, special friends, Rudolph Johnson, David Baker, and Bobbie Joe Coffman.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Johnson Stapleton of the home, son and loving caregiver, H.K. Stapleton, III (Traie) of Church Hill, his dog, Chase, brothers, Harvey Stapleton of Dandridge and Ed Whaley of Gatlinburg, friends, Eddie Fletcher, Chick Tate, Eugene Woods, Gerald Skelton, and Alan Lawson.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Edwin McElroy, nurse, Joyce, and all staff of Kingsport Hematology Oncology, staff of Amedisys, Becky, Sandra, Joanie, Connie, Eleanor and Mike.
The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. Monday April 7, 2014 at Christian-Sells Funeral Home.
Funeral services followed at 6 p.m. with Rev. Ray Bledsoe, Rev. Tim Johnson, and Rev. Mike Pelham officiating.
The Hawkins County Color Guard and Tennessee Army National Guard conducted military honors at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Highland Cemetery.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, Eugene Woods, Chick Tate, and Carlos Bowman, pallbearers, Charles Gladson, Gerald Skelton, Greg Johnson, and Moe Cloud.
