Betty Jo Poe, of Cosby, born September 1, 1939 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 6, 2013. She was a faithful member of the Northport Baptist Church. Her greatest accomplishment was serving the Lord. She was owner of Poe’s Sport Center for 26 years, served as President of Newport Little League and Co-founder of Newport Crewettes with Virginia Cureton. She was preceded in death by her husband, JM Poe; infant son, Jeremy Poe; mother, Veda Hamilton; father James Herbert Jenkins; step-father, Guy Hamilton; sister, Juanita Jenkins; nephew Mike Creasy; brothers-in-law, Raymond Creasy, Tom Poe and Bill Poe; and eleven aunts and uncles. She is survived by her son, Dennis (Pam) Poe; daughter, Brandi Poe (Tim) Proffitt; grandchildren, Jake Poe, Shannon Poe, Paige Raines, Kortnee Raines; great grandchildren, Bryce Poe, Iverson Poe and Dacian Poe; special great-grandsons, Jarren Raines and Nathan Lane; sisters, Jackie Creasy of Alta Vista, VA; Virginia (John) Gerald of Newport, Becky (Wayne) Mitchell of Seale, AL, Barbara Lou (Mac) Bagwell of Catuala, GA and Pat Gentry of Phenix City, AL; nieces, Jenny Greene, Ellen Creasy, Kathy Burnette, Kathleen (Perry)Schrandt, Tammy (Jason) Hatcher, and Amy (David) Dorsey; nephews, Tommy (Lisa) Burnett, Mike Burnett, Kevin (Rachael) Creasy, Lester Barker, Heath (Morgan) Creasy and Tommy Blasingame; sister-in-law, Bobbie (Bill) Burnett; brother-in-law, Bert (June) Poe; sister-in-heart, Louise (JD) Suggs; and many special friends and Northport Baptist Church Family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, November 11, 2013 at Manes Funeral Home with Rev. Kris Brady officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Manes Funeral Home. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com.
