Poe, age 71, of Newport, passed away Friday, December 27, 2002, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Vaughtie Lee Poe; infant son, Jeremy; and brothers, Tom Poe and Bill Poe. He retired from Sonoco Products in 1987 and became bailiff at Cocke County Court House. He was a lifetime member of the Newport Rescue Squad. He was a member of Northport Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty Poe, of Newport. They celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on December 24th. He is also survived by his son, Dennis Poe and wife, Pamela, of Sarasota, Florida; daughter, Brandi Poe, of Cosby, and special friend, Tim Proffitt; grandchildren, Jake Poe, US Army, of Webster, Texas, James S. Poe, of Sarasota, Florida, Paige and Kortnee Raines, of Cosby; great-grandson, Bryce Poe, of Newport; brother, Bert Poe and wife, June, of Smithtown, New York; sister, Bobbie Burnett and husband, Bill, of Parrottsville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jackie and Raymond Creasy, of Altavista, Virginia, Virginia and John Gerald, of Mobile, Alabama, Becky and Wayne Mitchell, of Phoenix City, Alabama; and many loving nieces and nephews. He will be missed by a host of friends, especially those from the Waffle House and the Cocke County Court House. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2002, at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Rutherford and Rev. Wade Holbrook officiating. Burial in Union Cemetery.
