Rev. Lawson Henderson, age 60, Surgoinsville, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, following an extended illness.
He was just elected pastor of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He proclaimed the gospel of Jesus Christ for 29 years throughout East Tennessee and surrounding areas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Cindy Dorsey Henderson; brothers, Raymond Henderson, Mayfield Henderson, Wade Henderson, Wayne Henderson, and Clifford Henderson; and sisters, Grace Little, Carrie Adkins and Geraldine Henderson.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Depew Henderson of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Darrell (Loretta) Duncan, Surgoinsville; five sons, Dennis Henderson, Defiance, OH, Kenneth Henderson, Surgoinsville, Jerome Henderson and Jeffery Henderson, both of the home, and Gary Henderson, Rogersville; six grandchildren, James henderson, Danielle Henderson, Angelia Henderson, Crystal Henderson, Kelly Henderson and Brittany Henderson; three sisters, Mary Cox, Dandridge, Carolyn Ladd, Jefferson City, and Martha Ignace, Monistique, MI; and a brother, Ted Henderson, Gladwin, MI.
Calling hours will be 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Arry Hickman, Dan Brown and Powell Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
