Mack E. Horner, 85, of Mount Morris, died Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Oregon Health Care Center. He was employed by Kable Printing Co., Mount Morris, as a pressman in the rotary and offset press room, for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
Mr. Horner was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Talbott, Tenn., the son of William and Hannah Bell (Kimbrough) Horner. He served in the Army during World War II in the European theater. He moved to the area in 1949. Mack married Barbara Ludewig on Nov. 18, 1967, in Brookville. He was a member of International Pressman's Union Local 124, a 50-year member of Mount Morris American Legion Post 143 and a life member of Mount Morris Moose Lodge 1551 and Oregon Veterans of Foreign Wars 3639. Mack loved to garden, fish and watch the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Vikings.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Brian Horner of Leaf River; three brothers, Dewitt (Imogene) Horner of Jefferson City, Tenn., Ray (Rose Mary) Horner of Morristown, Tenn., and Haskell (Mary) Horner of Louisville, Ky.; three sisters, Maggie Gilliam and Rosa (Robert) Kinder, both of Jefferson City, Tenn., and Edna (Stewart) Bennett of Brooklet, Ga.; and a granddaughter, Mackenzy Horner of Leaf River; and a grandson, Michael Horner of Galesburg.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at Disciples United Methodist Church, Mount Morris, with the Rev. Lora Zink, pastor, officiating. Burial is at Plainview Cemetery, Mount Morris. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements were completed by Finch Funeral Home, Mount Morris.
Memorials have been established to Ogle County Hospice and Disciples United Methodist Church, Mount Morris.
