BOWLING, FRANCES O. (VEDA) age 82, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, August 11, 2008 at home. She was a member of Knob Creek Baptist Church but attended Island Home Baptist. Veda worked as a waitress at Sam and Andy's for 18 years and served the first pizza. She fed numerous students and professionals and retired from Holiday Inn then Holston Hills Country Club and Family Inn. Preceded in death by husband of 53 years, Ralph R. Bowling; brother, Burl Chandler , Ersie Garner and Jeri Hartman. Survivors include sons, Dr. Richard L. (Rick) Bowling and wife, Ellie, Mark S. Bowling and wife, Karen; daughter, Jacqueline (Jackie) Leonard and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Dusty Bowling and wife, Terry of Knoxville, Chris Bogdewic and wife, Megan, Ashley and Ben Yashan of Virginia; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Hayden, Hallie Grace Bowling and Isaac Boggewic; special extended family members, Kathy and David Keck, Sandy and Jack Kirkland, Sherry Kirby, Pat Zimmerman, Charlene Egan, John-Michael and Jessica Scott, Wayne and Rene Keck, Linda and Julio Hernandez, Arie and Crystal Dyer, Judy and Sam Buhl, Brandy and Robert Artrip, Sue Frewald and Joe Nichols; sister, Johnnie Gassaway of Ohio; nieces and nephews, Judy and Don Douglas, Tina and Joe Romines, Scott and Jeff Chandler and Bobby Garner , all of Knoxville; several other nieces and nephews out of town. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway. Family and friends will meet at Bowling Family Cemetery, Brown's Gap Road, Halls, on Friday for 10:00 AM graveside service, Rev. Jason Littlejohn officiating.
