Neil Edwin Hord, of Friendsville, arrived in the arms of Jesus Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015. He was a proud tribe member of The Eastern Band of Cherokee and he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Neil graduated from Friendsville High School in 1955 and was a member of The Longstreet/Zollicoffer Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp #87. He was an honorary associate member of Abner Baker 1404 and Chapter 89 United Daughters of The Confederacy and Sam Davis 647 Children of The Confederacy. Neil was a member of Salem Baptist Church Greenback, and he loved the Lord with all his heart, and his sweet spirit reflected it in every aspect of his life and anyone who met him fell in love with him. After learning of his cancer, he had his travel dreams come true. He was preceded in death by his precious wife, Patsy Stout Hord; parents, Burl and Leona (Finger) Hord; sister, Beryl Hord. Survived by his loving adopted family, Brian and Lisa Thomas, Cameron Thomas, and Haley Cantrell; sister and brother- in -law, Coy and Madge Hearon; a host of friends; and his cats, Thunder and Jason. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at Salem Baptist Church, Greenback. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Danny Davis officiating. Family and friends will meet at Middlesettlements Cemetery on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, for a 2 p.m. graveside service. Condolences may be offered at www.berryfuneralhome.com.
