HATFIELD, ELLIS "RAY" age 58, of Fountain City, died Thursday, November 13, 2008, from a courageous fight with lung cancer. Ray was born November 14, 1949, in Jellico, TN and served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam War combat veteran. He worked for CSX Railroad first as a conductor, then as a locomotive engineer for 32 years. Ray loved to play golf and go on motorcycle trips with his dear friends Bud and Steve. He was loved by everyone and was known for his sweet, sweet smile. He is preceded in death by sister, Carol Beam. Ray is survived by the love of his life, Emily Cooper Hatfield; parents, John and Daisy Hatfield of Corbin, KY; brother and wife, Johnny and Rhonda Hatfield and family; sister, Kathy Lawson and husband Steve; nieces, Chapel Taylor and Wendy Lawson and families; mother-in-law, Rebecca Cooper; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Sheila Cooper; nephews, Dutch and Max Cooper; sister-in-law and husband, Lyn and Richard Sarli . He will be missed by all of his many friends and by his boys, Booly, Roo, and Pugsy. The family wishes to thank the wonderful nursing staff of Fort Sanders Hospital and St. Mary's Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 4:00pm at Middlebrook Gardens Chapel, 9020 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville, with receiving of friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Mary's In-Home Hospice, 5411 Fountain Road, Knoxville, TN 37918 or the Knox County Animal Shelter, 3201 Division Street, Knoxville, TN 37919.
