LT. CMDR. Navy Ret. Donald E. Zong, 86 of Sevierville, went to his heavenly home, Thursday March 23, 2017. He was born in State College, Pennsylvania on November 13, 1930. He joined the Navy at the age of 17, as a Naval Pilot, which flew him to all corners of the world. He retired as a Naval Intelligence Officer for the Pentagon. Settling in Florida, after raising his sons, he enjoyed square dancing, gardening and golf. Finally, calling Tennessee home, he enjoyed his time with his loving companion, "Darling Peggy", as he affectionately called her. He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by loving mother, Dorothy Zong and sister, Janet Johnson both of Pennsylvania; and his wives, Shirley and Evelyn Zong.
Survivors include his sons, Donald Jr. (Kim), and Lance (David); step-daughter, Tanya (Ed); Loving companion, Peggy Gordon; granddaughters, Allison, Jennifer (John), Erica (Russell), Jadie (Clint); 4 Great-Grandchildren
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Pigeon Forge Care and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care they provided for Don.
The family will receive friends from 2-3:30 PM Sunday, March 26, 2017, with funeral service to follow at 3:30 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Sutton officiating.
