John Loy Ownby Jr., 92, of Cumberland, died February 5, 2017. He was born May 24, 1924 in Tennessee, a son of the late John Loy and Pearl Wolfe Ownby. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his sister, Mildred Craddock (Granville); sister-in-law, Lavern Ownby and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Murphy Ownby and four brothers, Fred Ownby, Clyde Ownby, A. E. “Gene” Ownby and Gordon Ownby.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 7 at Jones Chapel Baptist Church, in Cumberland, with interment in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jones Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund, 947 Trents Mill Road, Cumberland, VA 23040.
