July 24, 1935 - March 13, 2017
Resided in Sevierville, TN
Wesley Melvin Hopf, age 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather, whose greatest happiness was found with his family, died March 13, 2017, at Select Specialty at Fort Sanders Hospital after a fall down the steps at Sevier County Courthouse on February 14th. He was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1935. Prior to graduating from Northwestern University in 1957, he spent his summers working at the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park, South Dakota, where he was a fishing guide. He had the distinct pleasure of being the personal guide for President Dwight D. Eisenhower on a weekend fishing trip. He had many fond memories of the conversations he had with the President. At age 17, Wesley was an expert rifleman and won the Wyoming State Championship in Expert Marksmanship. He was an army veteran and worked in the insurance industry before moving to Sevier County in 1982, where he and his wife owned "A Bit of the Smokies" craft mall in Gatlinburg.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Williams Hopf, to whom he was married for 58 years; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Gina Hopf of Tampa, Florida; daughter, Robin Hopf Corum of Knoxville, Tennessee; and daughter and very special son-in-law, Eleanor and Michael Sutton of Sevierville, Tennessee. Other survivors include grandchildren, Rachel Hopf Davis and husband, Preston, Christopher Hopf, Katelyn Hopf, Wesley Hopf, Carter Hopf, Skylar Walker, and Dylan Corum.
He was proceeded in death by his youngest granddaughter, Taylor Marie Corum. He was also the proud great-grandfather to Gabriel Hopf, Lochlan Davis, and Tanner Hopf.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Taylor Corum Scholarship Fund at East Tennessee Children's Hospital, Knoxville, Tn, in memory of her grandfather, Wesley Hopf.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017, from 4-6 pm at Swann Plantation, 1708 Old Knoxville Hwy., Sevierville, TN 37876.
