Thomas "Tom" John Scanlan, 68, Chapman, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at a Chapman nursing home.
Mr. Scanlan had been a sales manager for Montgomery Wards in Junction City until he retired in 1991. He served in the Army in the 1950s as a staff sergeant in a paratrooper unit.
He was born Aug. 9, 1933, in Chapman, the son of Paul H. and Agnes M. Schoemann Scanlan. He graduated from Chapman High School in 1952. He had lived in Tennessee before he moved back to Chapman in 1969.
Mr. Scanlan was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Chapman.
He married Shelby Jean Clark on June 2, 1963, in Gatlinburg, Tenn. She died Jan. 10, 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Pandi Smith, Abilene; a son, Dan Scanlan, Chapman; a brother, Phil J. Scanlan, Chapman; three sisters, Anne Strafuss and Mary Irene Easum, both of Lawrence, and Elaine Winterscheidt, Leavenworth; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Chapman. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Chapman.
A rosary recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Londeen Funeral Chapel in Chapman will be followed by a prayer service and then visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chapman Area Preservation Society and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
