Walter Harrison Vess Sr., a retired power plant operator, died Thursday at a Mississippi hospital. He was 86.
Vess attended Mount Pisgah United Pentecostal Church in Lucedale, Miss. He was a native of Knoxville, Tenn., and a resident of Leakesville.
Survivors include three sons, Hollis Vess of Leakesville, J.R. Vess of Maryville, Tenn., and Walter Vess Jr. of Yakima, Wash.; two daughters, Loretta Dees of Burbank, Ala., and Debbie Buxton of Mobile; three brothers, Elmer Vess of Sevierville, Tenn., Charlie Pruitt of Louisville, Tenn., and James Vess of Leakesville; three sisters, Margaret Hurst of Knoxville, and Ethel Thomas and Maggie Lewis, both of Cleveland, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Freeman Funeral Home in Leakesville. The funeral is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Pisgah United Pentecostal Church. Burial will be in Alford Cemetery in Leakesville.
