SMITH, RUTH PRESSLEY - age 66 of Athens, died Saturday, March 31, 2001 in an Etowah, Tenn. nursing facility. A native of Knoxville, Tenn. she had lived in Athens for several years, was retired from Burlington Woolen Mill, and was a member of the Chestuee Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Herbert and Elizabeth Headrick Pressley and was preceded in death by her first husband, Ed Lundy. Survivors include her husband, Chester "Jug" Smith; three daughters and three sons in law, Sandra and Billy Junkins of Dalton, Ga., Betty and Claude Townsend, Cleveland, Tenn., Jo Lundy and Charles Seepe, Athens, Tenn.; two sons and two daughters in law, Gene and Data Vess , Chattanooga, Tenn., Eddie and Donna Lundy, Cleveland, Tenn.; three step daughters and step son in law, Betty Lingerfelt, Athens, Tenn., Sue Luffman, Chatsworth, Ga., and Janie and DeWayne Johnson Athens, Tenn.; four stepsons and spouses, Harold and Wanda Smith, Athens, Tenn., Charles and Tootie Smith, Etowah, Tenn., Ross and Joyce Smith, Crystal River, Fla., and Larry Smith Athens, Tenn.; one sister, Eva Jo Carver Calhoun, Tenn.; one brother, Bill Pressley Calhoun, Tenn.; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren; and step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Firestone officiating. Burial will be in the Chestuee Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Ziegler Funeral Home, Athens, Tenn. is in charge of arrangements.
