Mary Jane Matthews , age 56, of Hot Springs, passed away, Sunday, March 29, 2009.
She was born on July 24, 1952, in Newport, Ark., the daughter of Dean Matthews and Betty Jo Wilson Matthews . She is preceded in death by her parents.
Mary Jane was a member of Leonard Street Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Hot Springs High School and later received a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Anyone knowing Mary Jane , knew she was a wonderful caregiver. She was retired and had been employed by St. Joseph's Medical Center for over 25 years. She held the office of secretary for the Hot Springs LPN Association. She also was the recipient of the "Georgia Lee Tucker Award for Outstanding and Dedicated Service to the Arkansas Licensed Practical Nurse Association." Mary Jane was a wonderful daughter, sister and aunt and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bobby Dean Matthews (Gena), of Shreveport, La.; her sister and brother-in-law, Pam Myers (Chuck), of Jacksonville; two nephews, Jeremy Myers (Lea), of Arkadelphia, and Sloan Matthews , of Shreveport, La.; two nieces, Desha Kyzer (Steven), of Cabot, and Mary Allison Matthews , of Shreveport, La.; one great-niece, McKenzie Kyzer; and two great-nephews, Chase Kyzer and Asher Myers; her uncle and aunt, James and Bea Wilson, of Tucson, Ariz.; cousins; and a host of friends.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at the Davis-Smith Funeral Home chapel, Hot Springs, with the Rev. Roy McLeod officiating.
Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Matthews , Steven Kyzer, Vernon Speers, Robert Burroughs and Richard Holzer, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are John Stewart, John New, Danny Matthews and Buddy Sellers.
