Mrs. Joan ( Brock ) Fortenberry, 62, of Tuckerman, departed this life at her home Monday, July 2, 2012. She was born Dec. 23, 1949 in Newport, the daughter of Henry Walton and Naomi Lee (Stoner) Brock.
She married Mr. Joe Davis Fortenberry , II, July 3, 1964.
Mrs. Fortenberry and her husband owned and operated T&J Store in Tuckerman for over 10 years. She was a member of First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, and enjoyed gardening, going to flea markets, singing and cooking. She especially loved trying new recipes.
Mrs. Fortenberry was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Fortenberry , II; her parents; one brother, Jerry Brock ; and her father-in-law, Joe Fortenberry, Sr.
She is survived by three sons, Joey Fortenberry , III, and wife, Leann, Todd Fortenberry , and Jason Fortenberry and wife, Amanda, all of Tuckerman; one brother, Gary Brock of Cord; four grandchildren, Brandi, Summer, Anna and Jamison; one great-grandchild, Emma; her law, Lamelda Fortenberry of Tuckerman; and her special friends, Sandra Provence of Tuckerman, and Linda (Harvey) Norris of Swifton.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Dowell's Chapel Cemetery. Friends visited at the funeral home Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 6-8 p.m.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Don Allen, Bridget Hendrix, Darrell Brock , Rick Kaiser, Jim Fields, Mike Templeton and Jimmy Riley. Buddy Altom served as an Honorary Pallbearer.
