Gaynelle D. Ottinger of Marietta died "quietly in her home" on Aug.15.
She was born on April 22, 1928, and was a daughter of the late Chauncey and Lola Depew in Chuckey, Tenn.
As a young woman, she moved to Knoxville, Tenn., to pursue a career in cosmetology.
Her family provided the following statement: ""She was married to MSGT Roy Ottinger Sr. of the St. James community in Greene County, Tenn., in 1957 and relocated her family to Niagara Falls, N.Y., where she became an accomplished hair stylist.
"The military relocated the family to Marietta in 1960 where she opened two successful hair salons (The Flamingo Beauty Salons) that routinely served many of the area's most prominent citizens, including visiting actress, Jane Mansfield.
"Mrs. Ottinger was a long-standing member of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce and was selected to represent the area as the first ambassador to Marietta's sister city of Lentz, Germany.
"Upon her retirement in 1973, Mrs. Ottinger moved back to the family farm in Tennessee, where she became an active member of the St. James Lutheran Church.
"Over the years, her children found employment opportunities in Georgia so Mr. and Mrs. Ottinger returned to Marietta in 1986 to be closer to their beloved family.
"Gaynelle Ottinger was a committed Christian who stood strong in her faith for God's grace. She was a compassionate and dearly loved woman who will be missed by all who truly knew her. May she enjoy eternal happiness with her Lord and Savior and with all with whom she is reunited."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Ottinger Sr., one son, Roy Ottinger Jr.; one sister, Mildred West; and a brother, Jay Depew .
Survivors include two sons: Steven Haggard of Marietta and Roger Ottinger of Carrollton; one daughter: Sherry Odom of Powder Springs; one stepson: Robert Ottinger of Alabama; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one "cherished friend" and daughter-in-law: Sheilah Haggard; two brothers: Jack Depew of Tennessee and Clell Depew of Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she "dearly loved," her family stated.
