James Beecher Mize , 73, of Fountain City died Monday at St. Mary's Medical Center.
He was a musician and composer as well as a businessman.
Mr. Mize was president of Mize Heating and Air Conditioning Co. He also was president of Mize Music Publishing Co.
He was widely known for his work in sacred music.
He was minister of music at First Baptist Church of Fountain City for seven.years, during which time he composed a praise hymn, "Thank You, God."
He later served as minister of music at Calvary Baptist Church and wrote a cantata, "God and Man."
Mr. Mize was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church.
He was a World War II veteran who served in the Army.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Geneva Wood Mize ; sons and daughters-in- law, J.B. and Phyllis Mize and Ron and Conda Mize , all of Knoxville; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Gladys Mize ; and other family and friends.
Services will be at 8 p.m. today at Mynatt's Mortuary. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. at Mynatt's. The family will reassemble at 10:30a.m. Thursday and proceed to Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service.
