Formerly a resident of Island Home Blvd., he was a member of South Knoxville Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for over 30 years at Serene Manor. A tailor by trade, he worked at Miller's Dept. Store for many years and later retiring from Balloff's Men's Clothing Store in 1982. Survivors: wife of 63 years, Cleda Cox Stokes ; son, Robert H. Stokes , III; son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Brenda Stokes ; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jon Lash; brothers, Boyd Stokes and Roy Stokes ; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 11 a.m. Wednesday at Berry Chapel. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Eastern Tennessee Chapter, 2200 Sutherland Ave., Suite H102, Knoxville, TN 37919.
