William C. Birr, age 87, of Kodak, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016. He was born February 28, 1929 in Kankakee, Illinois. Bill served our country honorably in the United States Army as a Technical Sergeant/ Sergeant First Class from January 8, 1951 to October 7, 1952. He was a Diesel Mechanic for International Harvester Co. until his retirement. Together, Bill and his wife, Doris, owned and operated Whispering Woods Resort in Arkansas. Upon their second retirement, Bill and Doris, moved to Tennessee to be closer to family and the mountains. Bill loved to be outdoors gardening and hiking. He was an avid stamp and coin collector and amassed a collection worthy of admiration. Bill was also a devoted member of Kodak United Methodist Church. His family and faith were intertwined with his love.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Birr; parents, William H. and Hazel A. Birr; and brother-in-law, Johnny Cahan.

Grandchildren: Shane Birr (Paula), Travis Birr, Ashely Catlett (Seth), Heather Huskey (Jesse);
Great-grandchildren: Serena Birr, Anderson Birr, Aidyn Birr;
Newest great-granddaughter expected to arrive soon: Aria Lara Catlett;
Sisters and brother-in-law: Patricia Brinkman (Melvin), Connie Cahan;
Nieces and Nephews: Sue, Wes, Kathy, Craig, and Lori.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation and thanks to the all the doctors and caregivers at University of Tennessee Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Legion Post 104, P.O. Box 4242, Sevierville, TN 37864.
The family will receive friends from 10:30AM-12:30PM Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. A procession will leave at 12:45 PM Wednesday to East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway for a 1:30 PM graveside service with Dr. Brad Hyde officiating.
