BATES, ANNA KATHRYN "KAT" age 92, passed away 2:58 P.M., Friday March 6, 2009 at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tellico Plains. Kathryn taught school in Coker Creek for several years before accepting a job with the Alcoa Aluminum Company of America. She was a member of the ALCOA 25 Year Club and retired after 42 years of dedicated service. Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Mamie Sue Bates; sisters, Helen Wear, Bobbie Crowder, Frances Bluford; brother, Joe Bates; nephew, Kenneth "Toby" Lee; long time friend, Joe Floyd. Survivors: nieces, Susie Young, Sarah Winter, Sandy Hakooz , Sissy Burris and Sue Walker; several other great nieces and great nephews, and families. Funeral 11:00 A.M. Monday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Rev Mark Hensley officiating. Interment in Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Alcoa. Pallbearers will be Rick Shepherd, Jackie Winters, Samir Hakooz , John Burris, Jeff Winters, and Brian Fugate. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Shepherd, Matthew Millsaps, Tyler Fugate, and Taylor Burris. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Tellico Plains.
