- In 1850 Daniel N. and Clarissa were listed in the Federal Census of Sevier
County, Tennessee. There were two children in the household at that time:
Virginia, age 2; and John T., age 1/12. Again in the 1860 Federal Census of
Sevier County, Tennessee they were listed. They now had six children at home:
Virginia, age 12; John L. age 10; Cleason, age 6; Frederick, age 4; Mary, age
2; and William, age 4/12.
Serving with the Union Army during the Civil War, Daniel N. Emert was a junior
seargeant in Company H of the East Tennessee Cavalry.
Shortly after the close of the Civil War, Daniel N. and his wife Clarissa moved
with their children to Grainger County, Tennessee.
