Murtice Irene ( Bennett ) Taylor , 99, formerly of Vian, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, in Van Buren. She was born Jan. 21, 1915, in Hattieville to John and Ida Bennett . She was married to Virgil Hudson Taylor on July 21, 1956, in Sallisaw. He preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1986, in Sallisaw. Mrs. Taylor owned and operated a country grocery store in the Carlile community in Oklahoma and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors are a daughter, Carol Blankinship of Van Buren; a son, Chester Blankinship of Gore; two grandchildren, Cheryl Blankinship and Terry Blankinship of Oklahoma City; several great grandchildren; a sister, Monice Summerlin of Vian; and a brother, J.C. Bennett of Geary, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; her parents, John and Ida Bennett ; three sisters, Emma Barrett, Georgia Pope and Louise Phillips; and three brothers, Gleason Bennett , John Raymond Bennett and Quinton Bennett .
Funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Vian. Burial will be at Round Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
Viewing will be today 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be Richard Bennett , Pete Bennett , Charles Bennett , Melvin Martin, Barney Taylor and Preston Remer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Coleman, Dale Mott, Beau Spyres, Les Owens, Louie Slape, Terry Blankinship and Robert Bennett .
