Dorothy Jean Ray of Wynnewood, Oklahoma was born on October 20, 1950 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to Garvin Eugene and Janie Marie (Kelley) Chandler and passed from this life on Sunday, August 10, 2008 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 57 years.
Dorothy grew up in Wynnewood and graduated from Wynnewood High School. During her junior year in high school, Dorothy met Johnnie Lynn Ray who was a junior at Oklahoma State University. Upon her graduation from high school they were married in the First Baptist Church of Wynnewood on September 07, 1968. Dorothy was a devoted wife supporting her husband throughout his military service. They were stationed first at Ft. Knox and then Ft. Sill. Johnnie then went to Vietnam where he was a prisoner of war for 14 months. His great love for “his” Dorothy brought him home. She was the rock which enabled him to endure this time of hardship. They were later stationed again at Ft. Knox and then Ft. Carson. She was a member of the National League of Families.
Dorothy enjoyed shopping and could “shop until you dropped”. She was very artistic and could arrange flowers beautifully as well as decorate a home. The highlight of her life was definitely her family, especially grandchildren. She was passionately devoted to her family and shared with them the importance of being an honest person. When she set her mind upon an idea, she was determined to accomplish that goal. The past 10 to 12 years, Dorothy had courageously faced many health challenges.
Her family was able to give back to her the love and care that she had so freely given to them.
Dorothy is survived by:
