[S142] Newspaper Article, 23 Jul 2003. James Earl Massey, age 86, of 1093 Brown Avenue, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at the Asheville V.A. Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Phil and Bessie Walls Massey. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Woodard. He was owner/operator of Massey Paint and Body Shop for 40 years and retired in 1982. He loved to work on antique cars, and he was a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church for 71 years. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Violet Clark Massey; a stepson, Ricky Caldwell of Waynesville; and two step grandchildren, Alia and Eric Caldwell. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Don Letzring officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery, with military gravesite rites conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and at other times, the family will be at the residence.
