WHITEHEAD, MARY DAVIS age 83 , of Knoxville , passed away Friday , December 7 , 2012. For 66 years she was the devoted wife of Harold Bruce Whitehead , who survives her; and the loving mother of Victor Bruce Whitehead of Knoxville and Nancy Whitehead Trusty (Bob) of Atlanta. She was the proud grandmother of Jennifer, David, Vicki, Ryan, and Drew; and the proud great grandmother of Emily, Edward, Xander, Rachel and Siana. Mary is also survived by her brother, Austin Davis of Rossville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Pearl Strickland and Margaret Skipper; and her brothers, Woodrow Davis and Robert Davis . Mary was born in Etowah, Tennessee to Grace and Jefferson Davis on the family farm on March 29, 1929, graduated from Etowah High School and attended Tennessee Wesleyan College. She and Harold lived in Bowling Green, Kentucky and then moved to Knoxville in 1949. Mary sang in the choirs of Arlington Baptist Church, Central Baptist Church of Bearden and Second Presbyterian Church and also sang in Sweet Adelines for several years. She was an excellent tailor and seamstress, an avid gardener and an exceptional homemaker who excelled in baking. Mary was a breast cancer survivor for 40 years. Memorials may be made to the United Way, Second Harvest or Habitat for Humanity. The family will receive friends at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, 6200 Kingston Pike on Wednesday, December 12 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service following at 2:00 p.m. Online condolences at www.rosemortuary.com.
