Mr. James Clay "Jim" Self , age.81, of Newport, passed on from this world doing what he enjoyed most in life: fishing
He was a man that made friends wherever he went, a man that was so full of life and laughter, always willing to lend a helping hand. His death will leave emptiness in our family but memories will forever be with us to give comfort.
Mr. Self was a former employee of Rev. A.A. Haggard who operated a knitting mill in West End and he also worked for Freeman's Furniture and Styles T.V. Repair.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Arrington Self ; son Ronnie Self ; parents Allen David Self and Leona Wyatt Self ; brothers Frank Self , Sr. and Tom Self ; sister Pauline Edwards; and companion Lorene Bible.
Survivors include his sisters Beulah Ledford, Ann Arrington, Charlotte Reece and Shirley Self , all of Del Rio; brother David Troy (Ann) Self of Newport and his grandchildren. Additional survivors include his step-daughters Charlene Keller of Newport and Linda Campbell of Salt Lake City, Utah, and several nieces and nephews
The family will meet at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, June 14, 2016, at Jonestown Cemetery in Del Rio for the 10:00 a.m. graveside service with Pastor Sherman Sexton officiating.
