Evelyn Smith Kropff , age 90, of Baysinger Community, stepped out of time into eternity with her Lord and Savior on June 14, 2010.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph William Kropff ; son, Johnny Earl Kropff ; sister, Frances Smith Dowd; brothers, John E. Smith and Harry Earl Smith; and grandson, David Alan Kropff .
Survivors include her four sons, David (Joan), of Parrottsville; Larry (Ann), of Parrottsville; Doyle (Betty), of Melbourne, FL; and Neal (Sue), of Miami; and grandchildren, Tim (Judi), of Gainesville, FL; Susan Kropff Miller (Richard), of Parrottsville; Bill (Renee), of Chattanooga; Robin, of Nashville; Donna, Brian (Jessica), Wendy (Troy), and Heather, all of Melbourne, FL; Todd (Kimberly), of Plantation, FL; and Jennifer, of Miami, FL; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was born in the Baysinger Community on October 21, 1919, to Charlie David Smith and Glessner Verda Fancher. She married Ralph William Kropff in 1936. They had four sons and remained in the community until 1945 when they moved to Miami, FL.
Following the passing of her husband in 1968 and retirement from JC Penney & Co. as a Security Officer, she moved back home to Parrottsville in 1979 and became an active member of Forest Hill Baptist Church, serving faithfully for 31 years. One of the many avenues she served in was collecting food for the Bread Basket within the church and delivering it to the ministers in charge of distribution.
Evelyn 's love of beauty was apparent to anyone who experienced the profusion of color and joy that sang from the flowers in her garden and yard. Her heart sang, as it did in her church choir, when she was in the midst of them, blending colors and types; her flowers acted as beacons, reflecting her love of Nature and God's creation through her for her friends, family, and community members to stop and enjoy. Her greatest pleasure was found in coaxing unsuspecting beauty of often overlooked wildflowers to reveal themselves. She applied this same love and passion toward the people Jesus placed in her life, mining the hidden treasures for all to enjoy.
The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the staff of Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice for the special care given to Mrs. Kropff .
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Forest Hill Baptist Church in Parrottsville. A Celebration of Evelyn 's Life will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Brooks officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forest Hill Baptist Church, P. O. Box 13, Parrottsville, TN 37843 or to a charity of your choice.
