October 16, 1941 - June 1, 2016 Gerald Wayne Samples, Sr., age 74 of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016 after a brave battle with lung cancer. Wayne served in the U.S. Navy and worked for CSX Transportation for 33 years, and then the Kroger on Western Avenue for 11 years and was a skilled leather craftsman and always had a smile on his face. He was a loving and kind dad, grandpa, and friend to all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Samples; parents, Wesley and Mary Samples; and sister, Levern Fox. Wayne is survived by son, Gerald Samples Jr. (Jerry); daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Rick Foster; grandchildren, Ethan and Ashlyn Foster; nephews, Rob and Mike Fox; and niece, Joy Besermin; special friends, Larry, Mickey, and Becky. Family will receive friends Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 10:00am until 12:00pm at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920, with a service to follow at 12:00pm.
