James Pleas “J.P.” Myers, age 89 of Pigeon Forge, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Pigeon Forge. He proudly served active duty in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Adis Ownby, Dot McCarter, Jeanette McFalls, and Blanche Parrott; and his brothers, Max Myers, Fred Myers, and Houston Myers.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Ownby Myers; daughter and son-in-law, Connie Myers Cottongim and John; grandchildren, William S. Piper and fiancé Andrea Collinsworth, James C. Piper and wife Amy, Suzanne Piper Bower and husband Chris, Shawna Cronan, Noelle Sutton and husband Jamie, and Cory Cottongim and wife Cammy; great grandchildren, Caleb and Carly Piper, Jacob and Seth Sutton, Luke and Kody Cronan, and Jack Cottongim; brothers, Frank Myers and wife Ruth, and Harold Myers and wife Joyce; several nieces and nephews including Randy Trentham, A.J. Myers, Jim Ownby, Mary Jane Ownby, Eddie and Aileen Trentham, Betty Jo McFalls, and Pat Batel; special friends and caregivers, Lucretia Dunbar and Linda Williams; and many other special friends and Sunday School class members including James Smelcer, Garland Harmon, Eunice Watson, and Bob Walker.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to LeConte Medical Center doctors and staff.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Pigeon Forge, 3290 Parkway, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday at Atchley Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel with Rev. Dale Ellenburg and Rev. Preston Joslin officiating. Eulogy will be given by Larry Ogle. Interment 11 AM Wednesday in Valley View Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 104. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home.
