Thelma Dunn Boyer of Sarasota, Fla., (formerly of Maryville), passed away November 1, 2010. She was born Feb. 21, 1912, in Townsend. Her parents were Andrew D. Dunn and Nancy Lawson Dunn of Tuckaleechee Cove in Blount County. She graduated from Townsend High School and attended Maryville College. In 1939, she married Raymond James Boyer, and in 1944 they moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where Thelma was active in youth programs for over 30 years. She developed and ran youth programs for the public schools, the City of St. Petersburg, the YMCA, and the Women’s Job Corps. Following the death of her husband in 1975, she retired to Bradenton, Fla. to be near her family. She is survived by sons, James and Edwin (Lynda Myers) of Bradenton, Fla.; grandsons, Andrew (Kirsten), Jimmy, Theron, Patrick, and Anthony Boyer; and two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Christian Boyer. She will be missed by sister-in-law, Doris Dunn Macomber and her nieces and nephews, Ross (Linda) Birchfiel, Nancy Dunn (Bud) Hancock, Mike Dunn, Ray (Karen Kimbrough) Dunn, Andrea Dunn (George) Gorton, Kevin (Wanda) Dunn and Erin Dunn. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ray Dunn, Maynard (Kathleen) Dunn, and her sister, Edna Dunn (Ross) Birchfiel. Two children (Robert and Linda) died in infancy.
