October 22, 1908 - December 2, 2009 Mary Eda “Granny” Whaley, age 101, a resident of Cleveland went home to be with her Lord Wednesday evening at the family residence. She was the daughter of the late Cora Mayes Whaley and Andrew Whaley. She was also preceded in death by her husband Oliver Whaley, infant son, Carl Gene Whaley, step mother, Laura Bohanan Whaley, grandson, Tony Prince, son in law, Woody Ash, 8 brothers and 1 sister. She was born in the Smokey Mountains on October 22, 1908 she loved to go back and visit anytime she could. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and loved everyone she met. She loved to make candy and enjoyed quilting. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Michigan Avenue Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, Nelle Whaley and her husband Garland, Ernest Whaley, Mary Ash and Jack Whaley and his wife Shirley. 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, sister, Beulah Harris and lots of friends also survive.A Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted 11:30 AM Saturday at the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Reverend Victor Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with grandsons and great grandsons serving as pallbearers, Tommy Whaley, Jimmy Whaley, Paul Hudson, Travis Hudson, Tim Whaley, Keith Whaley, Kevin Hudson, Matt Whaley, Josh Hardin, Chris Hardin, Nicholas Whaley, Brandon Frazier and Jeff Whaley. The family request that memorials be made to Michigan Ave Baptist Church 2741 NE Benton Pike, Cleveland, Tennessee 37323 The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 until 8 at the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes who is in charge of the arrangements.
