CLEVELAND - Melvin Ownby , 82, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002.
Survivors include two children, Vicki Long and Allen Neil Ownby ; and two grandchildren.
Services are Sunday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
Visitation will be today from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Melvin Ownby , 82, of Cleveland, loving father and husband, passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 in a local hospital.
He was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school teacher and song leader for a number of years.
A veteran of WWII, he served with the 3rd Division, U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater, seeing active combat at Guadalcanal.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Edith Johnson Ownby ; mother and father, Lillie and Eli Ownby ; and one brother, Ennis Ownby , all of Cleveland.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Dave Long of Cleveland; one son and daughter-in-law, Allen Neil and Bernice Ownby of Cleveland; two granddaughters: Natalie and Tiffany Ownby of Cleveland; one brother, Duel Ownby ; three sisters: Reba Teague, Marie Carroll and Irene Keys all of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Carden and Pastor Windom Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors with Ted Johnson, Mervin Ownby , Doug Teague, Brad Montgomery, Dean Ownby and Bryon Carroll serving as pallbearers.
