Everett Smelcer, age 87 of Pigeon Forge, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013.
Mr. Smelcer was an Army veteran of World War II. He fought in five major battles in six months and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his bravery and service.
He was preceded in death by his wife Pearl Smelcer; parents Richard and Charity Smelcer; brothers, Russell, Buford, Jack and Glenn Smelcer; sisters Lily Smelcer, Buna Smelcer, Ethel S. Maples, Hedy S. Huff, Della S. Pickel and Stella Smelcer.
Survivors include:
Sons: Mike Smelcer and wife Donna, Jeff Smelcer and wife Veronica;
Grandchildren: Landon Smelcer and wife Jacki, Jessica Fox and husband Robbie, Charity Smelcer, Noah Smelcer;
Special Great-grandson: Zeke Smelcer, which was his Pa's nickname;
Sisters-in-law: Betty Jo Smelcer, Peggy Smelcer and Georgia Fain;
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Ellenberg officiating. Family and friends will meet 10 AM Wednesday in Pigeon Forge Baptist Cemetery for interment. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post # 104.
