Buna Veatress Smelcer, age 94, of Pigeon Forge died Saturday, December 22, 2007. She was born January 23, 1913, to Richard and Charity Smelcer.
Buna graduated from Smoky Mountain Academy in1933. She received a BA from Carson Newman College in 1946 and then a MA from University of Tennessee. She was a life long educator and served many years as administrative assistant to the Sevier County Superintendent of Schools. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Russell Smelcer, Buford Smelcer, Jack Smelcer and Glenn Smelcer; sisters Lily Smelcer, Ethel S. Maples, Hedy S. Huff, Della S. Pickel and Stella Smelcer.
She is survived by a brother Everett Smelcer and a host of nieces and nephews.
There will be a public viewing from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
Graveside service will be Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Pigeon Forge Baptist Cemetery conducted by R.G. Huff and Bill Maples, nephews of the deceased. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
