Davis, Dortha Maxine Flynn – passed away on April 25, 2012 at the age of 76. She was preceded in death by husband Eddie Ray Davis. They had been married 32 years at the time of his death on October 25, 1987; Her parents, Hobart & Zola Flynn; mother and father in law, Roy and Lena Davis; brothers and sister in laws, Baxter & Lula, Paul and Lorena, Clovis & Louise, Jack & Betty, Carl; sisters and brother in laws, Katherine , Mary Jane & Rev. Henry Woody. She is survived by daughter and son in law, Jerry & Lisa McCarter; granddaughter and husband, Kristie & Tyler Ledbetter; caregivers Barbara Ingle & Wilma Myers; brothers and wives, Leon & Nadine, Wiley & Fern; sister in laws, Julia & Lee Flynn; sister, Wanda Sue & husband Harvey McGill; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She graduated from East Tennessee Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She worked in the ER & recovery room at Baptist Hospital, and then at Blount Memorial Hospital for 35 years. She was a member of the Giggle Sisters Red Hats and the Sam Houston Guild. She was instrumental in getting the flag pole at Sam Houston's gravesite and getting highway 411 renamed to Governor Sam Houston Memorial highway. She wrote 3 cookbooks for Sam Houston school house, The Porter and Central Point. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ms. Davis's name to Valley Grove Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Sunday April 29, 2012 from 1-3pm at Highland South Funeral Home 9010 East Simpson Road, Knoxville, TN 37920; with a chapel service beginning at 3pm with Dr. William Sims III & Rev. Carroll Trentham officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Highland South Memorial Park; a guest book may be signed at www.HighlandMemorialParks.com
