U.S. Veteran Reverend Raymond E. Young, age 89, of Maryville, ended his earthly journey and went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Asbury Place of Maryville. He was a Southern Baptist Minister for 50 years faithfully and lovingly serving Adment Baptist Church in Pennington Gap, Virginia, Southside Baptist in Johnson City, Tennessee, First Baptist of Algood ,Tennessee, Loveland Baptist in Knoxville, Tennessee, Oak Street Baptist in Maryville, Tennessee and Millers Cove Baptist in Walland, Tennessee. His love for the Lord, his family, and people he met along the journey was beautifully expressed in a life of faith and faithfulness. Reverend Young proudly served in the United States Army and Army Air Corp. Preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie Mae Smith Young; brothers and sisters, Juanita Atchley, Mamie Henry, Edith Brown, Lester Young, John Young, Robert Young, Theodore Young and Marvin Young. Survivors include his son and daughter in law, Dr. Phil and Kim Young of Knoxville; daughter and son in law, Debbie and Paul Anderson of Irmo, S.C.; brother and sister in law Frank and Charlotte Young of North Carolina; grandchildren and their spouses, April and(Chris) Gaura of Irmo, S.C., Mary Beth and (Donald) Nugent of Columbia, S.C., Ashley and( Justin) Irick of Knoxville, Courtney Young and fiancé, Aaron Watson and Tyler Young of Knoxville; great grandchildren, Savannah Nugent, Autumn Nugent, Rebecca Gaura, Rachel Gaura, Emma Ethridge, Caleb Gaura and Madison Irick; and several nieces and nephews. He never waivered in his faith, was constantly amazed by the love and grace of Jesus Christ and freely shared God’s love with everyone he met. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Knox County Association of Baptists (PO Box 11028 Knoxville TN 37939) or to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org. Funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Dr. Phil Young and Rev. Bruce Farrant (Chaplain Asbury Place) officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery on Lyons View Pike in Knoxville for the graveside service and interment.
