Phyllis C. Barnes, of Newport, born October 4, 1926, passed away July 28, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Barnes; mother, Cleta Thompson; and sister, Jean Davis.
Leaving to cherish her memory, sons, Michael (Margie) Barnes and Richard Barnes, of Newport; daughter, Lisa Barnes (Les) Mondelli, of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Eric (April) Barnes, of Hattiesburg, Miss.; Mitchell Barnes, of Knoxville; Travis and Renee Barnes, of Newport; Evan Barnes, of Sevierville; Brandon Watts, of Newport; Jennifer (John) Robertson, Lisa (Chris) Holmes, Leslie Mondelli, of Nashville; Chris Gorrell, of Newport; great-grandchildren, Autumn Barnes, of Hattiesburg, Miss.; Kelsey Gorrell, of Newport; Bailey and Gabriel Holmes, of Nashville; Ryan Robertson, Emily Robertson, Tyler Robertson, of Nashville; sisters, Lela Webb , of Newport, and Bert Blackwell, of Columbia, S.C.; a host of nieces, nephews and a special friend, Chris Barnes.
The family will serve as pallbearers. She retired from Cocke County Baptist Hospital in 1989. She worked 28 years in the medical field. She was a volunteer for Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice program.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Newport. Her family grieves at her passing and rejoices in the warm glow of the memories of their sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Funeral Service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2009, in the Chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Charlie Boggan officiating.
Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
