Phyllis C. Barnes, of Newport, born October 4, 1926, passed away July 28, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Barnes; mother, Cleta Thompson; and sister, Jean Davis. Leaving to cherish her memory, sons, Michael (Margie) Barnes and Richard Barnes, of Newport; daughter, Lisa Barnes (Les) Mondelli, of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Eric (April) Barnes, of Hattiesburg, Miss.; Mitchell Barnes, of Knoxville; Travis and Renee Barnes, of Newport; Evan Barnes, of Sevierville; Brandon Watts, of Newport; Jennifer (John) Robertson, Lisa (Chris) Holmes, Leslie Mondelli, of Nashville; Chris Gorrell, of Newport; great-grandchildren, Autumn Barnes, of Hattiesburg, Miss.; Kelsey Gorrell, of Newport; Bailey and Gabriel Holmes, of Nashville; Ryan Robertson, Emily Robertson, Tyler Robertson, of Nashville; sisters, Lela Webb , of Newport, and Bert Blackwell, of Columbia, S.C.; a host of nieces, nephews and a special friend, Chris Barnes. The family will serve as pallbearers. She retired from Cocke County Baptist Hospital in 1989. She worked 28 years in the medical field. She was a volunteer for Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice program. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Newport. Her family grieves at her passing and rejoices in the warm glow of the memories of their sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Funeral Service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2009, in the Chapel of Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Charlie Boggan officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
